Extra Cream Please….

The most difficult thing that I have been trying to overcome out of this Paleo/LCHF experience is the coffee situation.

I like coffee.  For its taste, for the social attachment and often for the caffeine.  I have ALWAYS ordered mine with skim or light milk.  You know cos fat apparently = fat, ergo, lets avoid it all.  But now after my few weeks at this (which i’ll share with you all later) and seeing my results, I can 100% say, ‘Add another dollop, please!’  The hardest thing now is the ordering – many cafe in Australia don’t carry regular pouring or think cream.  They have that horrible whipped stuff that comes out of a can (which is always sweetened with sugar).  I know people who literally substitute cream for milk in their latte, which = approx one cup of cream, but Im not quite there, yet.  However, I am enjoying a generous pour, about 40ml, of pouring cream, added to a long black.  Not only does this make it Paleo friendly, but it also makes it take amaze-balls!  And keeps me satiated for hours and completely abolishes a need for a sugar ‘energy’ hit.

Now as a Nutritionist, this does kind of go against everything I have every been taught about wellness and good nutrition, especially when it relates to weight loss and health.  But the times are changing and the myths are beginning to be de-bunked!  So Im on a journey to help remove peoples fears around fat, sugar, diets and weight loss.  I know there is a better way to enjoy our food and our life without counting or weighing.  This is not how it used to be and for me, this is certainly not how I want to live.

So for now i say, pour a little more cream in my coffee and lets chat about it….

I’ll be updated my own ‘persona findings’ each week, which keep it very real and keeps me very accountable to my commitment for a different way of eating, which I hope is one more piece of evidence that you don’t need to starve to look good and be healthy.

I totally agree and have always loved my coffee full fat, but i am starting to move away from Dairy. I am more than excited about putting coconut cream in my coffee. But i was wondering what your thoughts were about dairy in our diets?

Hi Dairy in our diet is a topic for high debate. I will always advocate organic (where possible), non homogenized milk/dairy as its often easier for our body to digest. When it hasn’t been homogenized the fat particles are bigger and are less likely to escape through the stomach lining and cause immune issues such as skin rashes etc. Often people can stomach more dairy when they come off other foods like processed sugars and grains, however this is a very individual thing. For now if you are decided to dial down the sugar and processed grains then stick to coconut cream. When you have adjusted to less sugar perhaps try adding it back in, a little at a time and see how you react.

I would love to hear your out come.
